In the realm of magic and deception, a new challenge emerges for the Four Horsemen, a group of skilled illusionists who have been in hiding for a year. Their last performance, a daring heist, left the FBI bewildered and the public in awe. However, their respite is short-lived, as a new adversary appears, seeking to exploit their exceptional abilities for a perilous mission.
The story begins with a flashback to New Jersey in 1984, where a tragic event unfolds. A magician, Lionel Shrike, attempts to escape from a safe submerged in a river, but fails to resurface. This incident has a profound impact on his son, Dylan, who grows up to become an FBI agent with a hidden agenda. Dylan's past is intertwined with that of Thaddeus Bradley, a magician who was involved in the tragic event and has been seeking revenge against the Horsemen.
In the present, the Horsemen, comprising J. Daniel Atlas, Merritt McKinney, Jack Wilder, and their new member, Lula May, are summoned by a mysterious voice claiming to be part of a secret society known as The Eye. The voice assures them that their patience will soon be rewarded, but Danny is skeptical and eager to take action.
Meanwhile, Dylan, who has been working undercover to gather intelligence on the Horsemen, is tasked with tracking them down. He is aided by a new agent, Natalie Austin, and senior agent Cowan, but they are unaware of his true loyalties. As the story unfolds, the Horsemen are forced to use their skills to evade capture and stay one step ahead of their pursuers.
The group's next performance is a sabotage of a tech launch, where they expose the company's CEO, Owen Case, as a fraud. However, their show is disrupted by a distorted voice that reveals their secrets, including the fact that Jack is alive and Dylan is their mole. The Horsemen are forced to flee, and in the chaos, they find themselves in Macau, where they are taken by a group of armed thugs to meet Walter Mabry, a former partner of Owen's who faked his own death.
Walter reveals that he has been seeking revenge against Owen and enlists the Horsemen to steal a valuable memory stick that contains sensitive information. The Horsemen are initially hesitant but eventually agree to the plan. As they prepare for the heist, they are aided by Li and his grandmother, Bu Bu, who are part of The Eye and provide them with the necessary tools and expertise.
The heist is a complex and daring operation, involving the creation of diversions, hypnotism, and clever misdirection. However, the Horsemen soon realize that they have been double-crossed by Walter, who intends to use the memory stick for his own gain. Dylan, who has been working to uncover the truth, appears and helps the Horsemen to outwit Walter's thugs and escape.
As the story reaches its climax, the Horsemen and Dylan join forces to expose Walter and his accomplices, including Arthur Tressler, a wealthy businessman with a personal connection to Dylan's past. The final performance is a spectacular show that involves the entire city of London, with thousands of people gathering to witness the Horsemen's most daring illusion yet.
In the end, the villains are brought to justice, and the Horsemen are hailed as heroes. Dylan, who has finally found closure and redemption, is welcomed as a member of the group, and together, they look to the future, ready to face new challenges and push the boundaries of magic and deception.
The film, directed by Jon M. Chu, is a thrilling and entertaining ride, full of twists and turns that keep the audience on the edge of their seats. With its talented cast, including Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, and Woody Harrelson, and its blend of action, suspense, and humor, Now You See Me 2 is a must-see for fans of the genre.
