Spoiler

The fabric of reality, as we know it, was irrevocably altered centuries ago with the advent of metahumans. This seismic shift ushered in an age where the lines between gods and monsters blurred, forever changing the course of human history. Thirty years prior to our present narrative, a profound discovery was made in the heartland of America. Jonathan and Martha Kent, a compassionate farming couple, stumbled upon a celestial infant, Kal-El, a child from a distant world. Embracing him as their own, they raised him as Clark, instilling in him the values of truth and justice.

Fast forward to the present, and Clark Kent has blossomed into Superman (David Corenswet), the preeminent metahuman and the shining beacon of hope for Metropolis. His very existence is a testament to the extraordinary, a symbol of power wielded for good. However, this newfound era of heroism is not without its turbulence. Just three weeks ago, Superman's intervention in a brewing conflict between Boravia and Jarhanpur, preventing an invasion, ignited a firestorm of international controversy. His actions, while saving innocent lives, have placed him at the center of a geopolitical maelstrom.

This delicate balance is shattered by the arrival of a formidable adversary, known only as the "Hammer of Boravia." In a brutal display of power, this enigmatic villain overwhelms and defeats Superman, leaving the city reeling and its protector vulnerable.

Stranded in the desolate expanse of the Arctic, a battered Superman finds solace in the unwavering loyalty of Krypto The Superdog. With a mournful whistle, he summons his canine companion, who, with remarkable strength, drags the weakened hero to the sanctuary of the Fortress of Solitude. Within its icy walls, a cadre of advanced robots, voiced by Alan Tudyk, Michael Rooker, and Pom Klementieff, attend to the Man of Steel. They place him on a specialized bed, positioning him directly in the path of the sun's life-giving rays, initiating a vital healing process. As his strength slowly returns, the robots also activate a poignant holographic message from Kal-El's biological parents, Jor-El (Bradley Cooper) and Lara (Angela Sarafyan), offering words of comfort and guidance from beyond the stars.

Rejuvenated and ready to face his nemesis, Superman soars back towards Metropolis. His objective: to confront the Hammer, now revealed to be Ultraman, a terrifying force under the malevolent control of the brilliant and ruthless billionaire, Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult). Despite Superman's valiant efforts, Ultraman proves to be a devastatingly superior combatant, pushing the hero to his absolute limits.

Meanwhile, Luthor, ever the orchestrator, convenes with high-ranking officials from A.R.G.U.S., including Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo). The conversation centers on Superman's unauthorized involvement in Boravian affairs, a matter of grave concern given the United States' alliance with Boravia. Luthor's animosity towards Superman runs deeper than mere political machinations; he harbors a profound resentment, believing the Man of Steel's extraordinary abilities render ordinary humans insignificant. His vindictiveness extends to the civilian population, as he targets Malik Ali (Dinesh Thyagarajan) for the simple act of aiding Superman during his confrontation with Ultraman.

Clark, seeking a semblance of normalcy, returns to his post at the Daily Planet. He joins his colleagues, the sharp-witted Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and the eager Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), amidst the clamor of breaking news. Reports detailing Superman's controversial involvement with Boravia dominate the airwaves, with the nation's president, Vasil Ghurkos (Zlatko Buric), vociferously condemning the hero's interference. Later that evening, a more intimate scene unfolds as Lois discovers Clark in her apartment, preparing dinner. Their relationship, a quiet romance blossoming amidst the chaos, is built on a foundation of trust, with Lois privy to Clark's dual identity. He agrees to an exclusive interview as Superman, but Lois, ever the pragmatist, challenges his involvement in foreign conflicts, urging him to maintain a professional distance. Clark, however, defends his actions, citing the immediate danger to innocent lives. The tension between their differing perspectives leads to a mutual decision to take a temporary break from their relationship.

Luthor, undeterred, embarks on a chilling expedition to Antarctica with Ultraman and his cunning accomplice, Angela Spica, also known as The Engineer (Maria Gabriela de Faria). The Engineer, her bloodstream infused with advanced nanites, possesses the terrifying ability to manifest any weapon imaginable. Their target: the Fortress of Solitude. In a swift and brutal raid, they breach its defenses, abducting Krypto. The Engineer then infiltrates the fortress's sophisticated computer systems, uncovering a hidden video message from Jor-El and Lara. This revelation holds a secret that Clark himself was unaware of, a piece of his heritage that will profoundly impact his understanding of his purpose.

Back in Metropolis, Luthor unleashes a monstrous creation. His henchmen detonate a small device that rapidly escalates into a colossal kaiju, unleashing terror upon the unsuspecting city. Superman arrives, determined to pacify the rampaging beast, but he is met by an unexpected force: the "Justice Gang," a newly formed team of metahumans. This formidable group includes the boisterous Guy Gardner/Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), the brilliant Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and the fierce Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), all bankrolled by the enigmatic billionaire Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn). Superman attempts to de-escalate the situation, seeking a collaborative approach, but Mr. Terrific, with a chilling efficiency, deploys bombs into the kaiju's abdomen, obliterating it from within, much to Superman's dismay.

While the citizens of Metropolis celebrate their deliverance, a shocking broadcast cuts through the jubilant atmosphere. Luthor, having broadcast the intercepted video message from the Fortress of Solitude, has had it translated and disseminated globally. The world now hears the full, unedited message from Jor-El and Lara, a revelation that shatters Superman's perception of his origins. His parents explicitly state that they sent Kal-El to Earth with the ultimate directive: to conquer the planet. The tide of public opinion turns with brutal swiftness. The adoring crowds transform into a furious mob, branding Superman public enemy number one.

Devastated by the apparent betrayal of his parents' intentions, Superman withdraws from his heroic duties, leaving the Justice Gang to handle the escalating threats, including an intergalactic imp. He seeks solace and counsel from Lois, grappling with the profound implications of his heritage. The media, including the outspoken Peacemaker (John Cena), join in the public condemnation, further isolating the Man of Steel. Adding to his distress, Superman discovers that Luthor has Krypto, but the villain, with a smug denial, refuses to reveal the dog's whereabouts.

In a moment of profound despair and a desire to protect those he cares about, Superman chooses to surrender himself to the U.S. government. Rick Flag hands him over to Luthor, who imprisons him within a meticulously crafted pocket dimension. This extradimensional prison is a testament to Luthor's twisted genius, housing individuals with whom he holds a personal vendetta, including an ex-girlfriend. Within this confined space, Superman is forced into an uneasy alliance with Joseph, also known as Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), whose young son, Baby Joey, is held in a separate cell with one of Luthor's enforcers. Luthor, exploiting Metamorpho's unique ability to generate any organic matter, coerces him into creating kryptonite, a substance designed to weaken Superman.

Luthor's manipulative reign begins to crumble from within. His girlfriend, Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio), weary of his constant abuse, reaches out to Jimmy Olsen at the Daily Planet, with whom she has a prior connection, albeit a strained one. She arranges a clandestine meeting, signaling her intent to betray Luthor. Meanwhile, Lois, desperate to rescue Superman, seeks assistance from the Justice Gang. Only Mr. Terrific agrees to help, piloting his advanced hovercraft towards LutherCorp in a daring rescue mission.

Within the pocket dimension, Luthor orchestrates a cruel spectacle, bringing Malik Ali before Superman and executing him to break the hero's spirit. He further threatens to target those closest to Superman, pushing Metamorpho to the brink of emotional collapse. Witnessing Superman's anguish, Metamorpho unleashes a surge of energy, a powerful beam imbued with a solar intensity that recharges the Man of Steel. Breaking free from his kryptonite-induced weakness, Superman rescues Baby Joey and then liberates Krypto. The newly formed alliance battles Luthor's henchmen, narrowly escaping the dimension's gravitational pull towards an impending black hole.

Concurrently, Lois and Mr. Terrific infiltrate LutherCorp, overcoming Luthor's security forces. They discover the portal to the pocket dimension, but Terrific warns of the catastrophic consequences of its repeated destabilization. They enter the dimension, finding Superman, Metamorpho, Krypto, and Baby Joey, and manage to escape just as the portal seals shut.

Lois brings Clark back to the familiar comfort of Smallville, to the Kent farm, allowing him to recover. During his stay, Clark engages in a heartfelt conversation with Jonathan, who imparts wisdom about the true meaning of heroism and how Clark's choices have forged him into the man he is today.

Luthor, enraged by Superman's escape, unleashes his fury. After a final, contemptuous dismissal of Eve, she makes her way to the server room and contacts Jimmy, offering him the information needed to expose Luthor, in exchange for a weekend together. Jimmy reluctantly agrees, but his plan is jeopardized when Ultraman discovers Eve, dragging her away. Despite her capture, she manages to transmit files to Jimmy, which initially appear to be mere selfies. However, upon closer inspection by Lois, these images reveal crucial documents and evidence of Luthor's illicit activities. Armed with this damning information, Lois presents it to Editor-in-Chief Perry White (Wendell Pierce). Together with Jimmy and fellow Daily Planet employees Cat Grant (Mikaela Hoover), Steve Lombard (Beck Bennett), and Ron Troupe (Christopher McDonald), they board Mr. Terrific's ship, determined to expose Luthor's treachery to the world.

Luthor, in a desperate attempt to silence Eve, reopens the pocket dimension, but this reckless act tears a catastrophic rift through Metropolis. Simultaneously, President Ghurkos leads the Boravian army in an invasion of Jarhanpur, intent on crushing dissent. Children in Jarhanpur, facing overwhelming odds, raise a defiant flag and cry out for Superman's aid.

Superman, witnessing the unfolding crises, is urged by Mr. Terrific to address the rift in Metropolis, as its expansion threatens to consume the city. As he attempts to mend the dimensional tear, Ultraman emerges, launching a brutal assault. Ultraman is revealed to be a clone of Superman, meticulously engineered by Luthor to eliminate his original. The Engineer joins the fray, attempting to kill Superman by forcing nanites down his throat. Superman, however, escapes into Earth's upper atmosphere, incapacitating her. Luthor, controlling Ultraman remotely through his henchmen, appears to have the upper hand. But Superman whistles for Krypto, who proceeds to dismantle Luthor's surveillance drones, allowing Superman to engage Ultraman on equal footing. Superman then strategically maneuvers Ultraman into the path of a speeding bus, sending the clone hurtling into the black hole. Meanwhile, high above, the Daily Planet reporters successfully upload irrefutable evidence of Luthor's conspiracy to manipulate the Boravia-Jarhanpur conflict for his own gain, exposing him to global scrutiny.

Back in Jarhanpur, Superman has rallied reinforcements. Guy Gardner, Metamorpho, and Hawkgirl stand ready to defend the innocent. Guy's Green Lantern ring obliterates tanks, Metamorpho unleashes his transformative abilities against the ruthless soldiers, and Hawkgirl infiltrates Ghurkos's palace, incapacitating his guards before dramatically absconding with the tyrant himself. Ghurkos, believing Hawkgirl shares Superman's moral compass, anticipates mercy. She scoffs, however, and drops him to his death.

Superman bursts into LutherCorp, confronting Luthor directly. Mr. Terrific, working feverishly, manages to seal the rift. Luthor, in a final act of defiance, rants about his elaborate scheme to eliminate Superman through the Boravia-Jarhanpur conflict. Superman, however, delivers a powerful speech, emphasizing his shared humanity with the people of Earth. Before Luthor can continue his tirade, Krypto intervenes, mauling the billionaire. The world watches as Luthor's machinations are exposed, leaving him defeated. He is subsequently arrested and incarcerated in Belle Reve. Metamorpho, having proven his worth, joins the ranks of the Justice Gang.

The citizens of Metropolis, and indeed the world, once again embrace Superman as their true hero. He seeks out Lois for a private "interview," and their reunion culminates in a passionate kiss amidst the clouds. Meanwhile, Jimmy and Eve find solace in each other's company, their relationship blossoming after her release from the pocket dimension.

Superman returns to the Fortress of Solitude, forging a friendship with one of its robotic inhabitants. He is then visited by his cousin, Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl (Milly Alcock), who has come to retrieve Krypto, her beloved pet. Superman resumes his solar recharge, while the robots play cherished memories of his idyllic childhood with the Kents.

During the end credits, Superman is depicted gazing down at Earth from the moon, Krypto nestled beside him. A post-credits scene shows Superman and Mr. Terrific observing the city's reconstruction, with Superman humorously noting an unevenly constructed building, much to Terrific's exasperation.
