The chilling legacy of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza continues to haunt the small town, a year after the traumatic events that scarred its survivors. The once-terrifying animatronics have been transformed into the stuff of local legend, fueling a burgeoning fascination that culminates in the town's inaugural "FazFest." Yet, beneath the surface of this manufactured nostalgia, a deeper, more sinister truth festers, threatening to resurface and unleash a horror that has been dormant for decades.

The narrative opens in 1981, a stark reminder of the franchise's grim origins. A young Charlotte, portrayed by Audrey Lynn Marie, finds solace in the company of the animatronic band at the very first Freddy Fazbear's establishment. Her only confidante is Vanessa (Miriam Spumpkin), a girl who tries to draw Charlotte into the boisterous atmosphere of a birthday party. However, Charlotte's attention is drawn to a disturbing scene: William Afton, also known as Spring Bonnie (Matthew Lillard), is seen leading a young boy into a secluded back room. Despite Charlotte's desperate pleas for help, the adults remain oblivious to her distress. Driven by a child's instinct, she ventures to find the boy herself, only to be pursued by Afton. The harrowing encounter culminates with Charlotte emerging from the stage, the boy in tow, before collapsing, fatally wounded. Her lifeless body falls through a stage door, only to be cradled by the enigmatic animatronic known as The Marionette.

Fast forward to 2001, and the echoes of that past continue to reverberate. Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) is jolted awake by a phone call from Mike (Josh Hutcherson), confirming their dinner plans. Abby (Piper Rubio), Mike's younger sister, harbors a quiet suspicion that Mike harbors romantic feelings for Vanessa, a notion he dismisses, insisting their relationship is purely platonic. A year removed from their harrowing experiences at Freddy Fazbear's, Abby finds herself yearning for the comforting presence of the animatronics – Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy. Mike, however, is determined to help her move past the trauma.

At school, Abby’s lingering affection for the animatronics sets her apart. While some classmates view her with suspicion, others are captivated, particularly given the resurgence of interest in Freddy's, which has spawned the aforementioned FazFest. Abby's desire to participate in an upcoming robotics competition is met with resistance from her teacher, Mr. Berg (Wayne Knight). He expresses concern that her continued obsession with the animatronics might lead to embarrassment for the school.

Later, Mike and Vanessa meet for dinner, and it becomes evident that both are grappling with the lingering effects of their past traumas. Upon returning home, Mike discovers that Abby has slipped away, driven by a desire to "fix her friends." He finds her amidst the decaying ruins of the Freddy's location where their ordeal unfolded. After gently persuading her to leave, Abby stumbles upon a Faz-Speaker toy, which she brings home.

Meanwhile, a trio of paranormal investigators, the YouTubers Lisa (Mckenna Grace), Alex (Teo Briones), and Rob (David Andrew Calvillo), arrive at the original Freddy's. They are granted entry by a mysterious figure (Freddy Carter). As they explore the dilapidated establishment and subsequently split up, a chilling fate befalls them. Alex is brutally dismembered by an unseen animatronic, while Rob meets his end in the murky waters of a river moat ride. Lisa then becomes the unwilling plaything of The Marionette, her body manipulated like a macabre puppet. The enigmatic guide reveals himself to be Charlotte, addressing The Marionette and welcoming her back.

Vanessa's psychological distress escalates to a breaking point, culminating in a terrifying incident at a gym where she brandishes a firearm. That night, she is plagued by a nightmare of being pursued by Afton, a dream that ends with her shooting him off a balcony, only for him to continue his taunting.

Abby, meanwhile, begins to hear the Faz-Speaker whispering to her, guiding her towards the animatronics. She embarks on a bicycle journey to the original Freddy's, where she is greeted by Toy Chica, voiced by Megan Fox.

Vanessa, alerted to Abby's whereabouts, attempts to warn Mike. However, he reveals he has discovered a flyer with a phone number, leading him to speak with Charlotte's father, Henry (Skeet Ulrich). Henry discloses Vanessa's connection to Charlotte, and Vanessa confesses to visiting Charlotte's spectral presence at the original Freddy's, attempting to help her find peace. This revelation erodes Mike's trust in Vanessa.

Abby brings a newly designed robotic doll, modeled after Chica, to school for her robotics project. Mr. Berg, fabricating an excuse, seizes the doll and deliberately drops it, intending to remove Abby from the competition. Undeterred, Abby retrieves Toy Chica, intending to present her as her project. However, Toy Chica reveals a prerequisite: an entry code is needed to allow her, Toy Freddy (voiced by Kellen Goff), and Toy Bonnie (voiced by MatPat) to leave the premises. Vanessa, who has already gone to Freddy's to confront Charlotte, is captured by The Marionette. Under duress, Vanessa is forced to provide the security code, with The Marionette threatening Abby's life if she refuses. Having secured the code, The Marionette discards Lisa's body.

Mike seeks out Henry, who reveals his prior attempts to expose the Freddy's chain even before the child murders at other locations. Henry bestows upon Mike a music box, a tool he once used to soothe Charlotte, hoping it might bring her spirit to rest.

At school, Abby presents Toy Chica, but Mr. Berg accuses her of orchestrating a scheme involving a costumed individual, jeopardizing a school donation. In retaliation, Toy Chica stalks Mr. Berg and crushes his head. Toy Freddy, meanwhile, makes a triumphant appearance at FazFest, captivating the crowd before embarking on its own sinister mission.

Mike infiltrates the original Freddy's, aiming to access its computer systems. He discovers the rudimentary prototypes of the original animatronic suits. He frees Vanessa and then utilizes the computer to track the animatronics, all of which are under the control of Charlotte, now The Marionette. Vanessa pursues them, while Mike remains behind, arming himself with a discarded Freddy mask for protection.

Toy Bonnie and Toy Freddy begin a nocturnal rampage, targeting adults. Charlotte's rage is directed at the adults who ignored her pleas, leading to her tragic fate. The Prototype animatronics also awaken, with Prototype Foxy launching an assault on Vanessa. Toy Freddy attempts to attack a couple, but Vanessa intervenes, causing the animatronics to collide with each other while safely extracting the couple. Mike manages to deactivate the animatronics before they can reach him. However, one remains, heading directly for his house. Mike makes a detour to the Freddy's where he previously worked, hoping to rally the classic animatronics to protect Abby, should they truly care for her.

The Marionette breaks free from Toy Chica's chassis and possesses Abby. Mike arrives just as this occurs. Vanessa is taken to the house by Mike's friend Jeremiah (Theodus Crane). The Marionette, now inhabiting Abby, attacks Vanessa until Mike plays the music box, forcing the entity to relinquish its hold on Abby. The mysterious man from earlier reappears, revealing himself to be Michael Afton, Vanessa's estranged brother. He harbors a desire to continue their father's malevolent legacy, exploiting Charlotte's ghost for his own dark purposes. Toy Freddy, Toy Bonnie, Toy Chica, and Prototype Foxy launch an assault on the house, but the original quartet of animatronics intervenes, dismantling the attackers and safeguarding Abby. Jeremiah incapacitates Michael as he attempts to escape. Tragically, the physical forms of the classic animatronics can no longer withstand prolonged exposure outside of Freddy's, allowing the spirits of the murdered children to finally move on. One of the spectral children issues a dire warning to Mike: with their presence gone, they can no longer contain Afton's spirit, and he will return with amplified power. Michael also vanishes.

Jeremiah escorts Mike and Abby away from the house. Mike, his trust shattered by Vanessa's concealment of Michael's involvement, instructs her to stay away from him and Abby. As they depart, The Marionette possesses Vanessa's body.

During the end credits, three teenagers explore another Freddy's location and discover Springtrap's dormant body within a concealed room previously secured by Mike. As they attempt to move him, Springtrap's eyes flicker to life. In a post-credits scene, a recorded message from Henry is heard. He reveals his past association with Afton and issues a final warning about Charlotte's lingering spirit.
