In the shadowy world of clandestine operations and intricate financial schemes, "The Accountant²" plunges viewers into a high-stakes mystery that begins with a brutal act of violence and unravels a conspiracy of global proportions. The film, a thrilling continuation of Christian Wolff's extraordinary life, opens with a stark tableau: Ray King (J.K. Simmons), a man with a past as enigmatic as his present, finds himself at a local bar during a bingo night. His quiet evening is shattered by the arrival of Anais (Daniella Pineda), a young woman who approaches his table with an air of apprehension. Unbeknownst to Ray, their meeting is under the watchful eyes of enforcers working for a powerful figure named Burke (Robert Morgan).
Ray presents Anais with a photograph of the Sanchez family, residents of El Salvador. Anais, misinterpreting his intentions, believes Ray is tasking her with their assassination. However, Ray clarifies his objective: he needs her assistance in locating the family, having been hired by the wife's father, Edith. Ray's unease escalates as he senses the surveillance, prompting him to attempt an escape. The situation devolves into a violent confrontation within the bar, resulting in Ray’s grim demise at the hands of Burke's men.
The news of Ray's death reaches Treasury agent Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), who promptly visits the morgue to identify the body. A cryptic inscription on Ray's arm, "find the accountant," serves as her first, albeit perplexing, clue.
Meanwhile, Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck), the titular accountant, is engaged in a peculiar pre-arranged speed-dating event. His meticulously crafted dating algorithm, designed to optimize compatibility, proves to be his undoing. The women, initially drawn to him, are quickly repelled by his unconventional approach, leaving him to navigate a series of awkward encounters.
Burke and his formidable right-hand man, Cobb (Grant Harvey), discuss the recent events. They are aware of Anais's capabilities, recalling an earlier incident where she infiltrated a meeting Burke had with several associates, leaving them dead but sparing Burke. Tasked with eliminating any loose ends, Burke dispatches Cobb to Fort Worth to silence anyone investigating their illicit activities.
Marybeth, driven by the cryptic message left on Ray's arm, delves into his investigation. Her research uncovers documents pertaining to Christian Wolff, prompting her to contact a neuroscience academy with ties to him. Unbeknownst to her, Justine (Allison Robertson), Christian's handler, overhears Marybeth's conversation and learns of Ray's murder, a development that clearly alarms her.
Later, in a parking lot, Christian encounters Marybeth. Together, they examine Ray's research, which includes photographs of deceased Chilean ex-Special Forces operatives and a tax return belonging to Edith Sanchez. Their investigation leads them to Fort Worth, where they discover that Edith's father, Emiliano Gonzalez (Alberto Manquero), has been fatally shot.
Their pursuit of information takes them to a pizza factory, where they believe Edith once worked. The manager, Ike (Michael Tourek), proves uncooperative. Chris, employing his analytical skills, deduces Ike's involvement in money laundering. When Ike becomes confrontational, Chris swiftly incapacitates him with a precisely applied twist to his finger, forcing him to admit his dealings with Tomas (Lombardo Boyar), a man implicated in human trafficking.
Christian's estranged brother, Braxton (Jon Bernthal), is introduced as he attempts to adopt a Corgi puppy, only to be informed that he must wait for the scheduled pickup. His life takes a sharp turn when he receives a call from Christian requesting his assistance. Despite a strained relationship, Brax reluctantly agrees to help his brother.
The brothers rendezvous with Marybeth at a motel. Their plan involves extracting information from three women regarding Tomas. While two women flee in fear, one remains, demanding additional payment for her cooperation and safe passage away from Tomas. Their wait is interrupted by Tomas's arrival. In a swift and brutal display, Brax incapacitates Tomas by throwing him off a balcony onto a car. They then bundle the unconscious Tomas into Marybeth's trunk. Marybeth, though exasperated, is aided by Justine, who manipulates traffic to ensure their unimpeded departure. During this time, Marybeth learns of Emiliano's death, as well as the murder of Edith's husband, Gino, and the subsequent disappearance of their young son, Alberto.
The following day, Marybeth joins Christian and Braxton. Christian contacts Justine, who mobilizes her network of hackers to scour Los Angeles for Anais. They locate surveillance footage from the night of Ray's murder, revealing a woman named Pamela (Erica Johnson) who inadvertently captured Anais in a selfie. The hackers, with Marybeth expressing reservations about the invasion of privacy, manage to retrieve the selfie from Pamela's laptop before she realizes her device has been compromised. The image confirms Anais's extensive global travels and her involvement in assassinations targeting members of criminal organizations. Marybeth, now aware of Christian and Braxton's complicity in some of these deaths, decides to sever ties and pursue the investigation independently, adhering strictly to protocol.
In a separate development, Marybeth, accompanied by an attorney, meets with Tomas and his legal counsel. It is revealed that Ike has been murdered, a rat having been forced down his throat. As Tomas is about to agree to testify against his employers, Cobb ambushes them, fatally shooting Tomas and his lawyer with a sniper rifle.
Christian receives crucial information from Justine regarding a car accident from years prior involving a woman. He and Braxton spend more time together, culminating in a bar outing where Christian catches the eye of a waitress named Angie (Dominique Domingo). Their camaraderie is tested when Angie's ex-boyfriend confronts Christian. Braxton intervenes, and together they brutally assault the ex-boyfriend and his companions before making their escape. Braxton expresses pride in Christian's success in obtaining Angie's phone number.
Marybeth uncovers the identity of the car accident victim: a woman who, after suffering memory loss, underwent facial reconstruction surgery. This woman developed Acquired Savant Syndrome, exhibiting extraordinary skills in areas like chess and, later, combat. This individual is revealed to be Edith Sanchez, who had transformed into Anais. Her violent tendencies led to an attack on a guard and her subsequent escape from a medical facility.
Christian discovers that Braxton's employer has issued an order for him to eliminate Marybeth. He races to protect her, but Anais arrives first. A violent confrontation ensues, resulting in Anais stabbing Marybeth. Before departing, Anais glimpses a photograph of herself as Edith, with Gino and Alberto. This triggers a flood of repressed memories, revealing her past as a victim of human trafficking by Burke and his men, and witnessing Burke murder Gino. Christian arrives to find Marybeth and secures her aid.
Burke, in a desperate move, orders Cobb and his remaining enforcers to gather the kidnapped children at their compound in Juarez and execute them. With Justine's assistance, Christian and Braxton launch a daring rescue mission. As the villains herd the children onto a bus, the brothers attack, engaging the mercenaries. Cobb escapes with the children on the bus, pursued by Christian and Braxton. They track the bus to a pit where the children are being held. The brothers engage the mercenaries, but Cobb, with Alberto on board, drives the bus away. Christian boards the bus while Braxton engages in a rearward firefight. Cobb attempts to betray Burke, but both Christian and Braxton deliver fatal shots. They then rescue the children from the pit and drive the bus back to safety. Braxton insists on stopping to pick up a stray cat, a nod to Christian's earlier admission of being a "cat person."
Justine contacts Anais, providing her with a location. There, Anais confronts Burke, who emerges from a shower. Realizing his fate, Anais retrieves a large knife and pursues him.
Marybeth returns to work, recuperating from her injuries. She contacts a number, aware that Justine is monitoring the call, to express her gratitude for the rescue of the children, stating that Ray would have been proud. The hackers are shown preparing a room in their hideout for Alberto, who is en route with Christian and Braxton.
